Internet of Things

The internet of things is a swiftly expanding technology that aims to connect all devices to the existing Internet infrastructure.

At present only Mobiles, Workstations, Tablets, and Smart TVs are connected to the internet. By using IoT all the devices having sensors can be connected to the internet.

Internet of Things is an ecosystem of intelligent hosting devices which are AlwaysAnywhere, and Anytime (3As of IoT) connected with each other and sending some data or information which can further be processed over the cloud to generate a meaningful analytic result that can help a lot or trigger an automatic action according to the analysis. These small devices are called the “THING” of the Internet of Things and this environment comprises 4 components called Devices/Sensors, Connectivity, Data processing, and UI is also known as the Core of the Internet of Thing.

Components of IoT (Internet of things)

Sensors/Devices

The sensors or devices will collect the data from their environment. This could be something like a temperature reading or even a full video feed.

At times, even multiple sensors can be bundled together or they can be part of a device. Your smartphone device can carry multiple sensors such as a camera, accelerometer, GPS, etc. It can be a standalone or full device but the very initial step is of collecting data from the environment.

Connectivity

This will require connecting to the cloud on behalf of cellular, satellite, WiFi, Bluetooth, low-power wide-area networks (LPWAN), or you can connect directly to the internet using ethernet.

There is a tradeoff between power consumption, range, and bandwidth so selecting the best connectivity option is subjected to specific IoT applications, but they all do the same job of getting data to the cloud.

Data processing

After the data reached the cloud some software is used to do some type of processing on it. It could be easy or complex such as using computer vision on video for identifying objects and patterns.

User Interface

Make the information useful to the end-user in the best possible way. This is possible through an alert to the user in form of email, text, notification, etc.

Driverless Cars

Self-driven cars used to be a matter of science fiction, but what people believe to be a product built from future tech, is in fact reality today. These cars are sensible enough to take you to your destination without driver support, equipped with tons of devices like gyroscopes, sensors, internet, cloud architectures, and more. They use data from pedestrian conditions, traffic, speed breakers, corners, and potholes, among other variables – processing them at incredible speeds; of course, it’s this information that helps the system make driving decisions.

Wearables

It’s a popular practice to walk around with wearables today – be it fitness bands or smartwatches. These devices through sensors communicate data and give precise information.

Smart Hotels/Homes

It’s currently amongst the most popular Internet of things examples. In the case of a home, it ensures that you come back to a paradise basically. Imagine controlling the lights of your home from a remote location to create the impression of you being home, or operating the air conditioner in advance of you arriving home for the perfect temperature. Philips, for example, came up with smart illumination solutions, where the color of your home light adjusts in accordance with your moods. It’s a newer concept with hotels, but something that might soon come into the limelight.

Amazon Go

As a forerunner in incorporating new technologies, Amazon has taken a hard run at implementing stories without cash counters or cashiers. Using sensors, online wallets, and your account, the store places an item displaced from its shelves into your cart and removes it from the cart when returned. The system then deducts the amount from your Amazon Pay balance as you exit the shop based on all your purchases.

Healthcare System

Internet of things can be utilized to give excellent clinical administrations utilizing brilliant clinical gadgets.

Additionally called the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), the innovation can help in observing and supporting essential information which can help in settling on clinical choices.

IoT clinical gadgets are classic Internet of things examples. The gadgets can report a crisis like an asthma assault, cardiovascular breakdown, and so on quickly to a doctor. This can help in conceivably sparing the lives of numerous people. This agile technology helps in business transformation.
